      To reduce cell count and computational costs, create a half model.
    - Setting the Initial Conditions
      You specify the initial conditions in the cylinder and ports using tables. A single table describes both absolute pressure and temperature as a function of crank angle. Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder evaluates the initial values at the specified start angle (300 deg crank angle) using linear interpolation between the data points.

      Here, you set the length of the connecting rod, which directly affects the piston motion.
    - Setting the Inlet and Outlet Boundary Conditions
      You set the boundary conditions for the inlet and the outlet using the previously imported files intakePort1_Inlet.csv and exhaustPort1_Outlet.csv.

      For the motion of the valves, you import tables that describe the valve lifts as a function of crank angle.
    - Defining Operating Conditions and Time-Step Size
      Here, you set the crank angle at which the simulation begins and the duration of the analysis. You enable automatic time-step control, which adjusts the time-step size based on preset valve lift thresholds.
    - Aiding Solution Convergence
      To aid solution convergence, you move the valve curtain interfaces to a position that is more suitable for this engine geometry.
    - Preparing the Plots and Scenes for Visualization
      Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder provides several plots and scenes by default. To watch the solution develop, open the plots for cylinder turbulence kinetic energy and tumble-y. Also open the scenes for velocity magnitude and absolute pressure. Write the scenes to image files at regular intervals.
    - Running the Simulation
      The simulation is now set up and ready to run.
    - Analyzing the Results
      After the simulation is complete, you visualize the results.

      The Gasoline Engine tutorial uses a four-stroke gasoline engine to introduce various features of the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder add-on:
  - Gasoline Engine: Charge Motion
    Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder provides methods for predicting the charge motion in an internal combustion engine, including the injection of liquid fuel, the subsequent evaporation and mixing process, and the formation of fuel film on the engine walls.
  - Gasoline Engine: ECFM-3Z Combustion
    In Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder, you can simulate the combustion process in a gasoline engine using the Extended Coherent Flame Model Three Zone (ECFM-3Z).
  - Diesel Engine: Closed-Cycle Sector Model
    A closed-cycle analysis investigates the injection, ignition, and combustion process in an engine cylinder with all intake and exhaust valves closed. For axisymmetric cylinder geometries, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder allows you to model these stages of the engine cycle in a sector of the actual cylinder geometry in order to reduce runtime.
  - Uniflow Two-Stroke Engine
    Two-stroke engines complete the power cycle with two strokes of the piston while turning the crankshaft once (360 degrees). With Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder, you can simulate different types of two-stroke engines—uniflow, loop flow, or cross flow engines.

Analyzing the Results

After the simulation is complete, you visualize the results.

Examine the plots for turbulence kinetic energy and tumble-y:

In the Graphics window, click through the Cylinder : Turbulence Kinetic Energy and Cylinder : Tumble-Y tabs.
The following plots display the results after the run:

At the ignition point of 720 deg crank angle, the turbulence kinetic energy value is 40.63439 J/kg.

The tumble-y value at ignition point is -0.04337333.

Examine the scenes for absolute pressure and velocity magnitude:
