Importing the Geometry

You start the simulation setup from a CAD geometry in Parasolid format.

Due to the large number of cells, and the time it takes the solver to run, launch Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder in parallel on at least 8 cores.
To launch Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder:
  1. Start Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and create a new simulation by clicking File > New....
  2. In the Create a File dialog, select an appropriate parallel option and set Compute Processes to at least 8.
For information on the parallel options, see Process Options.
  3. Click OK.
  4. From the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ toolbar, click (Open Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-Cylinder).
    A Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder tab opens within Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
  5. Select File > Save As... and save the simulation under the name GasolineEngineMotored.sim.
To import the geometry:
  1. Right-click the Geometry node and select Import CAD Model.
  2. In the Open dialog, navigate to the inCylinder folder of the downloaded tutorial files.
  3. Select inCylinder_GasolineEngineTutorial_Geometry.x_b and click Open.
A total of five parts are imported:
    • engine-fluid
    • exhaust-valve 1
    • exhaust-valve 2
    • intake-valve 1
    • intake-valve 2
  4. In the Graphics window, position the parts to obtain a view similar to the one shown below.

For information on how to change the view in the Graphics window, see Mouse Configurations and Changing the View.
  5. Save the simulation .
