Setting Up the Valve Motions

For the motion of the valves, you import tables that describe the valve lifts as a function of crank angle.

To define the motion for the exhaust valve:
  1. Right-click the Engine > Exhaust Valve 1 node and select Edit.
  2. In the Edit dialog, next to the Valve Lift File drop-down menu, click Import.
  3. In the Import Valve Lift Table dialog, navigate to the inCylinder folder of the downloaded tutorial files.
  4. Select exhaustValve1_vlift.csv and click Open.
In the Graphics window, a Valve Lifts plot opens, which displays the valve lift as a function of crank angle.
  5. Click Apply, then Close.
To define the motion for the intake valve:
  1. Right-click the Engine > Intake Valve 1 node and select Edit.
  2. Using the same procedure as for the exhaust valve (Steps 2 - 5), define the valve lift using the file intakeValve1_vlift.csv.
The Valve Lifts plot displays the lift curves for the exhaust and intake valves:

  3. Save the simulation .
