Monitoring and Plotting Equilibrium Forces and Moments

When you employ the equilibrium motion, it is good practice that you monitor the forces and moments in the specified directions of the degrees of freedom acting on the ship hull. These forces and moments approach zero when an equilibrium is reached numerically. Monitoring these forces and moments lets you verify the quality of the equilibrium.

To monitor the equilibrium forces in Z direction:
  1. Right-click the Reports node and select New > DFBI > 6-DOF Body Force.
  2. Rename the 6-DOF Body Force 1 node to 6-DOF Body Force Z Direction.
  3. Select the 6-DOF Body Force Z Direction node and set Direction to [0.0, 0.0, 1.0].
  4. Right-click the 6-DOF Body Force Z Direction node and select Create Monitor and Plot from Report.
To monitor the equilibrium moment around the Y axis:
  1. Right-click the Reports node and select New > DFBI > 6-DOF Body Moment.
  2. Rename the 6-DOF Body Moment 1 node to 6-DOF Body Moment Y Axis.
  3. Select the 6-DOF Body Moment Y Axis node and set Direction to [0.0, 1.0, 0.0].
  4. Right-click the 6-DOF Body Moment Y Axis node and select Create Monitor and Plot from Report.
  5. Save the simulation.
