Eddy Current Suppression Model Reference

The Eddy Current Suppression model allows you to neglect eddy currents when computing the magnetic vector potential.

Simcenter STAR-CCM+ automatically activates the Eddy Current Suppression model when you activate one of the harmonic balance magnetic vector potential models, or any of the magnetic vector potential models in unsteady simulations. For regions where the effect of eddy currents is important, either deactivate the model in the associated physics continuum or enable eddy currents using the Eddy Current Suppress Option region setting.

Physics Models:
  • Space: one of Three Dimensional, Two Dimensional, Axisymmetric
  • Material: one of Gas, Liquid, Solid, Multiphase, Multi-Component Gas, Multi-Component Liquid, Multi-Component Solid > Multi-Part Solid
  • Electromagnetism: Electromagnetism
  • Electromagnetism: one of the magnetic potential models
  • Time: when using harmonic balance models, the Eddy Current Suppression model is available with both the Steady and Implicit Unsteady time models. When using other magnetic potential models, the Eddy Current Suppression model is only available with Implicit Unsteady, as eddy currents are automatically neglected in time-domain steady simulations.
Activates Region Inputs Eddy Current Suppress Option. See Region Inputs.

Region Inputs

Eddy Current Suppress Option
Allows you to manage the suppression of eddy currents at the region level. To account for the effect of eddy currents in conducting regions, set this option to Unsuppressed. When an excitation coil model is active in the physics continuum, the only option is Suppressed.
