Loading the Starting File and Generating the Mesh

You start this tutorial by loading a sim file in which a mesh, that is suitably refined for the purpose of this tutorial is ready to run.

Before starting this tutorial, make sure that you have at least 2 processes available to use.
  1. Open Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and select File > Load.
  2. In the Load a File dialog:
    1. Set Process Options to Parallel on Local Host and Compute Processes to 2 or more—depending on the configuration of the machine that you are using.
    2. Click Browse.
    3. In the Open dialog, navigate to the reactingFlow folder of the downloaded tutorial files and select the file GeneralCombustor_StartingFile.sim.
    4. Click Open, then OK.
Before generating the mesh, since the geometry in this tutorial represents a segment of a circular combustor, you need to define a periodic interface at each side of the fluid domain.
  1. Open Geometry Scene 1.
  2. To create an interface:
    1. Expand the Regions > Fluid Volume > Boundaries node.
    2. Multi-select the Periodic1 and Periodic2 nodes.
    3. Right-click one of the selected nodes and select Create Interface.
  3. To define the interface as periodic, select the Interfaces > Interface 1 node and set Topology to Periodic.
Now, you can generate the mesh.
  1. From the main toolbar, select Mesh > Generate Volume Mesh.
  2. Create a Mesh Scene.
  3. To help visualize the mesh, click (Make Scene Transparent).
  4. Save the file as Spray_Combustion.sim.
