  - Steady Flow: Lid-Driven Cavity Flow
    This tutorial demonstrates the performance of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ in solving a traditional square lid-driven cavity flow. The problem geometry consists of a two-dimensional 1 m² cavity. The cavity is covered by an impermeable wall that moves in the x-direction with constant velocity of 1 m/s. A stretched quadrilateral mesh with 6400 cells is used.
  - Steady Flow: Channel Flow with Multiple Meshes
    This tutorial describes a steady airflow simulation over an obstacle that is mounted at the bottom wall of a three-dimensional channel.
  - Steady Flow: Laminar and Turbulent Flow in an S-Bend
    This tutorial demonstrates the flow of an incompressible gas through an s-bend of constant diameter (2 cm), for both laminar and turbulent flow. The first part of the tutorial covers the laminar flow, with a Reynolds number (Re) of 500, and the second part covers the turbulent flow, Re = 50,000. The same pipe geometry is used in both cases.
  - Steady Flow: Backward Facing Step
    Steady flow over a backward facing step is a typical scenario to investigate the behaviour of reattaching flows. Understanding the behaviour of the flow is crucial for many applications such as designing heat exhangers, evalutating aerodynamic performance and improving flow control strategies.
  - Anisotropic Flow: Cyclone Separator
    The flow inside a cyclone separator is characterised by strong swirling motion and three-dimensional boundary layers. Properly accounting for these effects is a challenging problem for CFD simulations. This tutorial presents the initial step in setting up a coarse mesh cyclone flow simulation.

    This tutorial models flow through a catalyst geometry.
  - Porous Resistance: Orthotropic Media
    This tutorial solves the same problem as the Porous Resistance: Isotropic Media, except that the fluid in the porous region cannot flow in any direction other than the bulk flow (y-) direction.
    - Prerequisites
      The instructions in the Porous Resistance: Orthotropic Media tutorial assume that you are already familiar with certain techniques in Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
    - Loading an Existing Simulation
      To start this tutorial, you can open one of two versions of the simulation file: the one that you created locally (if applicable), or a previously solved simulation file that is available online.
    - Renaming the Simulation
      Rename and save the simulation.
    - Setting Initial Conditions
      Set the initial velocity as 3 m/s in the bulk flow (-y) direction.
    - Specifying Orthotropic Porous Resistance Coefficients
      You specify the porous resistance coefficients in the form of an orthotropic tensor along the principal axes. You do not have to change the default local Orientation of the tensor, because you specify the porous resistance components in the directions of the default Cartesian axes.
    - Setting Stopping Criteria
      Disable the stopping criterion based on the pressure drop monitor and run the analysis for 250 iterations instead.
    - Initializing the Simulation
      Despite the similarity between the two problems, it is preferable in this case to start the analysis from scratch rather than restart from the Porous Resistance: Isotropic Media solution.

      Run the simulation to generate the solution.

Simcenter STAR-CCM+ provides a combination of the Film Casting model and the Free Surface model that allows you to simulate that process and to investigate the impact of various parameters on the resulting film.

Comparing Results

Compare the results of this tutorial with those of the Porous Resistance: Isotropic Media tutorial.

Open the simulation file from the Porous Resistance: Isotropic Media and create an identical scalar plot for it.

Select File > Load Simulation and open the isotropicPorousMedia.sim file. Its simulation tree is displayed in the Explorer pane.
Return to the orthotropicPorousMedia window, right-click the Scalar Scene 1 node, and select Copy.
Open the isotropicPorousMedia window, right-click the Scenes node and select Paste from the menu.
A scene named isotropicPorousMedia Scalar Scene 1 is shown in the Graphics window.

To display the two scenes side-by-side for comparison:

Click the orthotropicPorousMedia Scalar Scene 1 tab at the top of the Graphics window and drag it to the right-hand side. Release the mouse button when you see a red box marking out a strip at the edge of the window, as shown below.

Display the two scalar scenes side-by-side.

Click the bar between them and drag it to the left so that they have roughly the same width.
Save the simulation.
