Setting Up the Engine Models

Here, you select the physics models for fuel injection, secondary breakup, ignition, and combustion.

To set up the models:
  1. Right-click the Models node and select Edit.
  2. In the Model Selection dialog, select the following models:
    Group Box Model
    Optional Models
    • Injection
    • Combustion
    Secondary Breakup
    • Reitz-Diwakar Breakup
    Atomization
    • Huh Atomization
    Combustion Model
    • ECFM-CLEH
    • CO Emissions (selected automatically)
    Ignition Model
    • Auto Ignition
  3. Click Close.
The ECFM-CLEH combustion model requires a library table based on complex chemistry for calculating the equilibrium fuel mass fractions for premixed and diffusion combustion. The Auto Ignition model derives the ignition delay and auto-ignition reaction rates from a pre-computed Tabulated Kinetic Ignition (TKI) table. You import both tables in *.tbl format.
  1. Import the library tables:
    1. Right-click the Models > ECFM-CLEH node and select Edit.
    2. Within the Edit dialog, in the ECFM Equilibrium Table group box, click Browse.
    3. In the Open dialog, navigate to the inCylinder folder of the downloaded tutorial files, select diesel_ECFM_EQCLEH_Table.tbl, and click Open.
    4. Click Apply, then Close.
    5. Right-click the Models > Auto Ignition node and select Edit.
    6. In the TKI Table group-box, click Import.
    7. In the Open dialog, navigate to the inCylinder folder of the downloaded tutorial files, select diesel_ECFM_TKI_Table.tbl, and click Open.
    8. Click Apply, then Close.
  2. Save the simulation .
