Obtaining the Lighthill Wave Solution

Starting from the steady RANS simulation, you perform an unsteady LES acoustics simulation using the Lighthill Wave model.

The Lighthill Wave model provides an efficient method to model sound generation and propagation for incompressible fluid flow. To calculate the sound propagation, the Lighthill Wave model uses a separate wave equation. This equation solves for the transport of the Lighthill pressure p l , which can be represented as the sum of acoustic pressure p a and hydrodynamic pressure p h :
p l = p a + p h
(5271)

The wave equation is coupled one-way with the LES transport equations.

The Lighthill Wave model is intended for studying the noise in regions where the contribution of the turbulent fluctuations can be neglected.
