Obtaining the Perturbed Convective Wave Solution

After the Lighthill Wave simulation is complete, you re-run the LES acoustics simulation using the Perturbed Convective Wave model.

Similar to the Lighthill Wave model, the Perturbed Convective Wave model uses a separate wave equation to calculate the sound generation and propagation in incompressible fluid flows. However, this wave equation solves for an acoustic potential ϕ a , from which the acoustic pressure p a can be derived.

Additionally, the model provides a pressure perturbation field p p , which represents a combination of acoustic pressure and hydrodynamic pressure.

The Perturbed Convective Wave model is intended for studying the noise everywhere in the flow domain, irrespective of the magnitude of turbulent flow fluctuations.
