Solution Data Interpolation
When the mesh changes during the simulation, for example due to remeshing or mesh replacement, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ automatically interpolates any solution data that was computed on the old mesh to the new mesh representation.
For better control over the interpolation process, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ provides the Solution Interpolation model. This model exposes properties that allow you to choose the interpolation method and specify whether the interpolation is performed on a region basis or part basis. You can enforce the conservation of mass, energy, and momentum during the interpolation process.
To activate the Solution Interpolation model:
-
In the relevant physics continuum, activate physics models as required. From the
Optional Models group box, activate the
Solution Interpolation model.
If you do not activate the Solution Interpolation model, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ automatically adds it to the continuum when remeshing occurs.
To specify interpolation settings:
-
Select the
node and set the model properties as appropriate.
For more information on the available properties, see Solution Interpolation Model Properties. In simulations that use parts-based meshing, this model ensures solution interpolation on new parts. If you add a new part to a region that contains solution data, or replace an existing part with a new part, the model automatically interpolates the solution to the new part.
