Modifying the Design Study for Simcenter Reduced Order Modeling Export

In the Design Manager project, you change the scene export format to a hardcopy for Simcenter Reduced Order Modeling.

  1. Launch Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and select File > Load....
  2. In the Load a File dialog:
    1. Set Type to Design Manager Project.
    2. Click Browse....
    3. In the Open dialog, navigate to the designExploration folder of the downloaded tutorial files.
    4. Select airfoilOptimizationStudy_ROM.dmprj and click Open.
    5. In the Load a File dialog, click OK.
As you modified the reference simulation, you must update the reference simulation in the Design Manager project to accept the new settings from the reference simulation:
  1. Right-click the Simulations > airfoilOptimization_start.sim node and select Update.
This Design Manager project consists of a Design of Experiment (DOE) study that monitors the response of the lift coefficient Cl and drag coefficient Cd to the variation of the input parameters. The AngleOfAttack varies in the range [0.0, 10.0] deg and InflowBoundaryMachNumber in the range [0.125, 0.25] deg.

You set the DOE Type to Latin Hypercube Sampling. When there are 80 Designs to Run, the range of each continuous input parameter is divided into 80 equal intervals. Latin Hypercube Sampling algorithm selects one value from each interval. For more details, refer to Latin Hypercube Sampling (Optimal).

After running the study, you export the 2D field images for MachNumberScalar and PressureFieldScalar.

  1. In the design study Cl_vs_Cd, select the MachNumberScalar scene node and set Export Formats to Hardcopy for Simcenter Reduced Order Modeling (*.png).
  2. Repeat the previous step for the PressureFieldScalar scene.
  3. Save the Design Manager project file.
