Defining Simulation Topology

Create regions and boundaries, and designate the inlet and outlet.

  1. Expand Geometry > Parts and select die and extrusion.
  2. Right-click and select Assign Parts to Regions...
  3. In the dialog, select the following:
    • Create a Region for Each Part
    • Create a Boundary for Each Part Surface
  4. Click Apply, then Close.
  5. Expand Regions and set the following properties:
    Node Property Value
    die > Boundaries
die symmetry plane Type Symmetry Plane
    inlet Type Mass Flow Inlet
    extrusion > Boundaries
extrusion symmetry plane Type Symmetry Plane
    free surface Type Free Stream
    outflow Type Free Stream

The symmetry plane on the bottom surfaces of the die and the extrusion allow you to simulate an arrow-shaped cross section using the simpler shape of half an arrow.

Setting the free surface and outflow boundaries to type Free Stream allows morphing, to simulate extrusion swelling.

Save the simulation.
