Remeshing the Fluid in Simcenter STAR-CCM+

Large displacements of the solid can lead to large deformations of the fluid mesh. To preserve the mesh quality, you can remesh the fluid in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ before continuing the co-simulation.

The workflow for restarting the co-simulation after remeshing depends on the selected Mapping Option (see Mapping Option).

To remesh the fluid in Simcenter STAR-CCM+:

  1. If the co-simulation is running, stop the co-simulation.
  2. Depending on the selected Mapping Option, continue as follows:
    Mapping OptionSteps
    Partner Maps Both Directions
    1. Remesh the fluid in Simcenter STAR-CCM+. Simcenter STAR-CCM+ automatically disconnects from Abaqus.
    2. Specify restart settings following the procedure in Restarting From a Previous Abaqus Simulation.
    3. In Simcenter STAR-CCM+, click Run.
    Map Both Directions This option requires Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to be connected to Abaqus when remeshing the fluid.
    1. Select the [Link 1] > Values > Connection to Partner Simulation and check the connection state.
    2. Depending on the connection state, continue as follows:
      • If Simcenter STAR-CCM+ is connected to Abaqus:
        1. Remesh the fluid in Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
        2. Click Run.
      • If Simcenter STAR-CCM+ is disconnected from Abaqus:
        1. Specify restart settings following the procedure in Restarting From a Previous Abaqus Simulation.
        2. To connect to Abaqus, initialize the solution in Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
        3. Remesh the fluid.
        4. Click Run.
