Running the Simulation and Exporting the Solution

Run the simulation to convergence and export the solution to a file.

Define stopping criteria for the simulation:
  1. Select the Stopping Criteria > Maximum Steps node and set Maximum Steps to 350.
  2. Select the Solvers > Lagrangian Multiphase > Steady > Iteration Update Frequency.
By default, the Lagrangian Multiphase solver starts solving after 10 iterations and updates the solution every 10 iterations. To speed up the simulation running time, you can increase the update frequency, so that the Lagrangian Multiphase solver runs only once, during the last iteration of the fluid solver:
  1. Select the Iteration Update Frequency and set Update Frequency to 340.
  2. Click (Run).
  3. When the solution is complete, save the simulation.
Saving the simulation before export ensures that the latest particle data are included in the track file and correctly exported.
To export the solution to a file:
  1. Select the External Links > gPROMS File > Values > File node.
By default, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ saves the file to the current directory as solution.hdf5. The default settings are appropriate to this tutorial.
  2. Right-click the External Links > gPROMS File node and select Export File.
You can import the solution.hdf5 file in gPROMS.
