    This tutorial demonstrates the process for modeling conjugate heat transfer using Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to Simcenter STAR-CCM+ thermal co-simulation.

  - Abaqus Co-Simulation: Thermal Coupling
    This tutorial demonstrates how to run a thermal co-simulation case using Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Abaqus. Co-simulation involves a strong coupling between the two codes, in which data exchange occurs at frequent intervals, that are known as coupling steps. In this case, data is exchanged at the end of each time-step, and a relatively large time-step is used to approximate a steady-state solution.
  - Abaqus Co-Simulation: Mechanical Coupling
    This tutorial demonstrates how to carry out a mechanical co-simulation case using Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Abaqus. Co-simulation involves a strong coupling between the two codes. Data is exchanged at frequent intervals that are called coupling steps. This level of communication between the solvers allows you to obtain a full solution across the fluid-solid interface.
  - gPROMS File Export: Spray Dryer
    Simcenter STAR-CCM+ allows for one-way coupling with gPROMS, a process modeling platform for the simulation of complex systems. In Simcenter STAR-CCM+ you reduce three-dimensional solution data to discrete values defined for clusters of cells; data from these clusters can then be exported to a network in gPROMS.

    - Prerequisites
      The instructions in the GT-SUITE Co-Simulation - 1D Coupling tutorial assume that you are already familiar with certain techniques in Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
    - Preparing the File Structure
      For this tutorial, you are provided with a starting GT-SUITE simulation file, containing the engine analysis, and the intake manifold Simcenter STAR-CCM+ volume mesh. Copy these files to your working directory.
    - Modifying the GT-SUITE Simulation for Co-Simulation
      After running a standalone GT-SUITE analysis to convergence, you modify the GT-SUITE simulation for coupling with Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
      - Running the GT-SUITE Simulation
        Before you couple Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to GT-SUITE, you run a standalone GT-SUITE analysis and examine the results. This practice makes sure that the model is valid and determines how many cycles are required to converge to a steady state solution. It also reduces the risk of error and inaccuracies when running the coupled simulation.
      - Analyzing the Results in GT-POST
        Using GT-POST, you analyze the results of the GT-SUITE simulation. You can determine the number of cycles that are required to reach a steady state solution, and visualize the converged values for pressure, temperature, and mass fractions. These values can be used as initial conditions in Simcenter STAR-CCM+, in order to speed up convergence of the co-simulation.

        In GT-SUITE, you define the co-simulation interface using three types of objects: CFD Interfaces, CFD Components, and CFD Connections.
      - Adding CFDInterfaces to the Model Map
        In the model map, you mark the 1D/3D interfaces between GT-SUITE and Simcenter STAR-CCM+ using CFDInterface objects.
      - Adding CFD Connections to the Model Map
        In GT-SUITE, you define the characteristics of the 1D/3D interfaces using CFD Connection objects. CFD Connections specify the exchanged data, the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ volume-averaging zone length, and how to determine the cross-section of the coupled Simcenter STAR-CCM+ boundary.
      - Adding a CFD Component to the Model Map
        In the model map, you link all the CFD Connections to a CFDComponent object. A CFDComponent defines several global settings, such as the number of pre-cycles to run before coupling with Simcenter STAR-CCM+, and species mapping.

        Define species mapping, so that GT-SUITE can map Simcenter STAR-CCM+ gas components to its own species.

Adding CFD Objects to the Project Tree

In GT-SUITE, you define the co-simulation interface using three types of objects: CFD Interfaces, CFD Components, and CFD Connections.

To add the required CFD objects to the project tree:

In the Templates and Search ribbon, click Template Library.
In the Template Library tree that appears on the left, expand the Flow > General Flow > Components node.
Drag and drop the CFDComponent node from the Template Library tree to the project tree.
Similarly, drag and drop the General Flow > Components > CFDInterface node, and the General Flow > Connections > CFDFlowConn node.
