Simcenter STAR-CCM+ solves physics problems on a computational mesh. To provide this mesh, you first define geometry using internal or external tools, and then create a mesh pipeline whose operations generate the mesh in repeatable steps.
The Surface Repair Tool
The Surface Repair tool diagnoses errors in, and provides repair tools for, tessellated surfaces and part curves. The same tool allows you to reorganize discretized geometry by searching for face-based features and attributes then assigning the results to new or existing part surfaces or curves.
Selecting Entities
The surface repair tool allows you to select faces based on either individual triangles from the tessellation or underlying patch definitions in the CAD geometry. A number of methods are available for making rapid selections based on continuity and proximity.
Using the Select Curves Mode
Use the Select Curves Mode to quickly select edges that are marked as part curves by the Mark Features by Angle tool or related tools.

  3D-CAD is a feature-based parametric modeler within Simcenter STAR-CCM+ that allows you to build geometries from scratch. The geometries that you create with 3D-CAD are stored as 3D-CAD models, which you can then convert to geometry parts for integration with the meshing and simulation process.

  This part of the User Guide describes how to use 3D-CAD, the parametric solid modeler available within Simcenter STAR-CCM+. It also describes the features and tools available for further preparation of the geometry model and its surfaces.

Using the Select Curves Mode

Use the Select Curves Mode to quickly select edges that are marked as part curves by the Mark Features by Angle tool or related tools.

Typical uses for the tool include unflagging feature edges and assigning feature edges to a new or existing part curve.

Activate the Edges filter.
Click (Toggle Select Curves Mode).

Note This action deselects all previous face and vertex selections, and only maintains existing edge selections if they are part curves.

The Select Part Curves box appears in the repair panel.

The part surfaces become translucent and part curves are highlighted in yellow.
Select the desired edges:
- To select one feature edge at a time, select Select Single Edge and make the selections in the Graphics window.
- To select all feature edges that are attached to the selected edge, select Select Connected Curves and make the selection in the Graphics window.
  Activating the Select Connected Curves option allows the specification of two further options. These options determine where the feature edge selection stops:
  - Break at Edge Junctions - Stops the selection where three or more edges meet.
  - Break at Sharp Angles - Stops the selection at a user-defined angle.
- Use the Select Zone tools .
Clicking multiple feature edges automatically adds to the current selection (that is, you do not need to press <Ctrl> for multiple selections).

To deselect a selection, there are two available options:

Click a selected feature edge in the Graphics window to deselect the edge or connected edges.
The settings in the Toggle Select Curve mode determine the edge or the connected edges.
Click (Select none) to deselect all selected edges.
