Using the Chase Edge Selection Mode

You can select edges manually using the shortest distance between two vertices.

This tool is available when you select the Edges filter.

To select edges using the chase edge selection mode:

  1. Activate the edge selection filter.
  2. Click (Toggle Chase Edge Selection Mode).
The Chase Edge Selection box appears in the repair panel.

  3. Enter the parameters for chase edge mode. See Chase Edge Selection Panel.
  4. In the Graphics window, click a vertex to select it.

A red sphere marks this vertex as the starting point.

  5. Click another vertex.

The red sphere relocates to indicate the current vertex selection. The edges along the shortest path between the previous and current vertex are selected.

In patch selection mode, the Chase Edge Selection tool allows you to only select or chase patch edges. Attempting to pick a vertex that isn't on a patch edge results in an error message indicating that no path can be found to the target vertex.

Leaving Chase Edge Selection mode maintains selections so you can perform further operations on the edges.

Use the Undo and Redo buttons to cycle backwards and forwards through the steps that are made in the selection process.

Enter the parameters to control the edge selection using the Chase Edge Selection mode.

Parameter Description
Follow Sharp Angle When activated, selects a path that is defined by edges whose attached faces have a dihedral angle, in degrees, that is greater than the user-defined Angle.
Continue From Last Continues selecting edges from the last selected vertex. Deactivating Continue from Last only allows selections between the first and second selected vertices (that is, a non-continuous selection).
Selection Mode Specifies whether the next set of edges you select are included or excluded from the current selection. Set Selection Mode to Add or Remove to control the behavior.
