Selecting Entities

The surface repair tool allows you to select faces based on either individual triangles from the tessellation or underlying patch definitions in the CAD geometry. A number of methods are available for making rapid selections based on continuity and proximity.

Most of the selection tools are embedded in the Graphics window. These tools allow you to select patches, faces, edges, and vertices by specifying a zone, threshold, or surface, or by growing and shrinking from an existing selection. See Selection Control Tools.

Specialized tools are available in the repair panel:

Other methods of selecting entities are listed below:

  • Right-click surfaces in the Graphics window to select associated entities.
  • Click individual entities manually in the Graphics window to select them.
  • Double-click an edge to select a continuous line of edges, whose face normals are similar to one another.
  • After you have run surface diagnostics, double-click a free edge to select all connected free edges.
  • Double-click a face to select a continuous surface that is constrained by part curves or sharp edges.

Filtering Selection Entities

In surface repair, controls along the bottom of the graphics window govern what you can select from the active model.

The controls are as follows:
  • Selection Mode Toggle: allows you to switch between selections based on patch definitions in the underlying model or selections based on triangles or quads on the tessellated surface.
  • Face Selection Toggle: when activated, allows you to select patches or faces.
  • Edge Selection Toggle: when activated, allows you to select face edges or patch edges.
  • Vertex Selection Toggle: when activated, allows you to select vertices at the ends of each face edge or patch edge
Next to each individual selection toggle, clears the selection but does not delete anything. The large on the right of all controls clears the entire selection regardless of entity type.

To select entities:

  1. Set the selection mode drop-down menu to either Individual or Patch.
  2. To activate a particular filter, click its icon.
  3. Using the left mouse button, select entities of the chosen type. To select multiple entities, press and hold [CTRL] as you click.
The number of selected entities are shown in the filter icon for each type.
  4. To clear selections, use one of the following methods:
    1. To deselect an individual entity, click on it again.
    2. To deselect all entities of a particular type, click the icon next to the relevant filter.
    3. To deselect all entities regardless of type, click the larger icon on the right. Alternatively, click anywhere in the white space behind the model.
