Global Tools

Global tools are designed for work on larger portions of the model as opposed to individual faces, edges, and vertices.

To access the Global tools:
  1. In the Surface Repair panel, click the Global tab.

NoteCoordinate systems that you create in the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ object tree while the repair session is active are automatically included in tools that use a coordinate system selection (for example when projecting vertices).
  2. In the Graphics window, select the appropriate entities.
  3. Click the desired tool.

The options for the selected global tool are displayed in the bottom half of the panel.

Selecting another global tool while one is already active switches to the new tool.

Creating a Local Coordinate System in Surface Repair

You can create local coordinate systems for surface repair tools that use a coordinate system without leaving the surface repair tool. The (Create a new local coordinate system) tool is located next to the coordinate system drop-down menu where appropriate.

To create a local coordinate system within the surface repair environment:
  1. Click (Create a new local coordinate system).
  2. In the Coordinate System Options dialog, choose the type of coordinate system to create. See Coordinate Systems: Local Coordinate System.
  3. Create the coordinate system using the visual tools in the scene and the in-place dialog. See Creating a Local Coordinate System Interactively.
  4. To add the coordinate system triad to the scene, activate the Add coordinate system to scene on creation option.

Coordinate system triads that are added to the scene are removed from the scene when you exit the surface repair tool.

  5. Click Create followed by Return.

You can create multiple coordinate systems in one session.

NoteAs in the coordinate system tool in the simulation tree, only Cartesian coordinate systems can be used as reference systems for other local coordinate systems.
