Creating and Editing Materials

You can work with private and user-defined material data in the Edit Material tab of the AMat.pro Builder.

Within this tab you can:

To edit an existing material:
  1. Select the Edit existing Material subtab of the Edit Material tab.
  2. In the Material textbox, enter the name of the material (or a related string) that you want to edit and click search.
If you want to see the complete set of material designations that are available, leave the Material textbox empty.
  3. In the Material Search dialog, choose the corresponding material designation and click Select.
The material designation and the respective database ID are displayed.
  4. To change one of the general information of the selected material on the left hand-side of the tab (see Edit Material Tab Reference), activate the relevant checkbox. Edit the information as required within the editing box in the center of the tab, and click Save.
  5. To change the chemical composition of the material, select the relevant cell of the Chemical Composition [% by mass] table (see Edit Material Tab Reference), modify the value, and click Save.

To add a new material designation:
  1. Select the Add new Material subtab of the Edit Material tab.
  2. Choose the material class from the Select Material Class... drop-down menu.
  3. Choose the appropriate material group from the Select Material Group... drop-down menu.
  4. Choose the appropriate material subgroup from the Select Material Sub-Group... drop-down menu.
  5. Enter the designation of your material in the Enter Material Designation textbox.
  6. Choose the owner of the material from the Select Owner... drop-down menu.
Every new material that you add requires the declaration of a material owner. If no owner group is available, the AMat.pro Builder prompts you to create one first. For information on how to create an owner group, see Creating and Editing Owner Groups.

  7. Click Add to save the new material designation to the database.
To delete a material:
  1. Select the delete existing Material subtab of the Edit Material tab.
  2. Within the Select Material to Delete group box, in the Material textbox, enter the name of the material (or a related string) that you want to delete and click search.
If you want to see the complete set of material designations that are available, leave the Material textbox empty.
  3. In the Material Search dialog, choose the corresponding material designation and click Select.
The material designation and the respective database ID are displayed.

  4. Click Delete to remove the material and all its associated datasets irreversibly from the database.
