    - Prerequisites
      The instructions in this tutorial assume that you are already familiar with certain techniques in Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
    - Load the Base Simulation
      A base simulation file has been prepared for this simulation. Continue by loading the base simulation file and saving it under a different file name.
    - Selecting the Physics Models
      Select the physics models required to define the behavior of the multiphase continuum.
    - Defining Lagrangian Phases
      A Lagrangian phase is used to define the solid particles in the simulation. The phase requires specific models and properties to characterize its behavior. In this case, the solid particles are cylindrical tablets, with the material properties set by the user. In a later step, you define interactions between tablets and the mixer walls and between other tablets.
    - Defining DEM Particle Interactions
      The DEM particle interactions define how the particles behave when they collide with one another and with the drum walls.
    - Setting the Rotating Drum Wall Condition
      Define the rotational velocity of the drum wall.
    - Creating an Injector
      Create an injector to deliver the tablets into the drum at the beginning of the simulation.
    - Setting the Solver Parameters and Stopping Criteria
      Set the solver time-step and elapsed time.
    - Setting Up a Visualization Scene
      Set up the Scalar Drum Scene in preparation for display of the tablets.

      The simulation is now ready to be run.

      Set up and activate the passive scalar used to represent the amount of coating that is sprayed onto the tablets.

      Resume the simulation and set the maximum time to ten seconds. Create a solution history file to record the particle (tablet) velocities and the Spray Residence Time

      The simulation is now ready to be run to determine the residence time of the tablets within the spray zone.

Selecting the Physics Models

Select the physics models required to define the behavior of the multiphase continuum.

To set the physics models:

For the physics continuum Continua > Physics DEM, select the following models, in order:

Click Close.

By default, gravity acts in the -Z direction. Change this direction to -Y:

Select the Physics DEM > Reference Values > Gravity node and set Value to [0.0, -9.81, 0.0] m/s^2.
Save the simulation.
