Running the Coating Spray Simulation
The simulation is now ready to be run to determine the residence time of the tablets within the spray zone.
- Select Function to . and set
Now run the simulation:
-
Click
(Run) in the Solution toolbar.
The simulation rotates the drum for a further seven seconds, passing particles through the spray. This spray 'coats' the particles by assigning a passive scalar value. The residence time of each individual tablet is indicated by the color change and the range of residence time is given in the scale to the right of the scene.Running the simulation takes approximately five hours on a workstation with eight processors.
You can monitor the iterative progress in the Output window. The scalar scene displays the tablets tumbling in the drum. The residence time increments each time a tablet passes through the conical volume of the spray.
When the solution is complete, the following message is displayed in the Output window: Stopping criterion Maximum Physical Time satisfied.
The final scalar scene should resemble the screenshot below.
Note | Simcenter STAR-CCM+ does not produce exactly the same image owing to the random injection algorithm which affects the initial conditions. |

- Save the simulation.
