Momentum Transfer

The momentum transfer between phases represents the sum of all the forces that the phases exert on one another.

In Simcenter STAR-CCM+, the momentum transfer term in the momentum equation Eqn. (1905) includes the following contributions:

where:
  • FijD is the drag force
  • FijVM is the virtual mass force
  • FijL is the lift force
  • FijTD is the turbulent dispersion force
  • FijWL is the wall lubrication force
The forces are defined as force per cell volume, on phase i, due to phase j. It follows that:
