Setting Up the Ignitor
For the ignition of the air-fuel mixture, you create an ignitor Engine Part, which provides a template for defining the ignition location and timing. You set the ignition timing to 700.0 deg CA, which is 20.0 deg CA BTDC.
-
Right-click the
Engine node and select
Create Ignitor.
The Edit tab opens and displays the ignitor template. The Graphics window updates and displays the ignitor as a red sphere. By default, the ignitor is centered in the cylinder head.
-
In the
Graphics window, change the view to obtain a similar engine position to the one shown below:
To position the ignitor:
-
In the
Edit dialog, set the following
Position properties:
Property Setting Y 1.0E-9 m Z 0.008 m The specified Y value slightly offsets the ignitor from the symmetry plane to make sure that the ignitor is located inside the simulation domain. -
To preview the ignitor in the
Graphics window, click
Update at the bottom of the dialog.
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder updates the position of the ignitor:
To set the ignition timing:
- Within the Edit dialog, in the Physics group box, set Spark Start Time to 700.0 degCA.
- Click OK.
-
