Dispersed Multiphase Solvers
When the Dispersed Multiphase model is selected, the Dispersed Multiphase solvers become available under the Dispersed Multiphase node.

The Dispersed Multiphase solver node contains sub-nodes that let you customize solver settings for the following:
- Dispersed Phase Flow
The Dispersed Phase Flow solver solves for the momentum and volume fraction:
- Dispersed Phase Velocity solver
This solver uses a form of the Segregated Flow Velocity solver for the fluid film, and solves the momentum conservation equation, Eqn. (2845).
- Dispersed Phase Volume Fraction solver
This solver controls the solution update for the volume fractions of all the phases. The discretized form of the continuity equation Eqn. (2846), is solved for each dispersed phase.
- Dispersed Phase Velocity solver
- Dispersed Phase Energy
The Dispersed Phase Energy solver calculates the energy transport.
Dispersed Multiphase Solver Properties
The Dispersed Multiphase solvers generally use the same techniques as the Segregated Flow solvers. The dispersed multiphase solution is updated on every inner iteration.
- Solver Frozen
- When On, the solver does not update any quantity during an iteration. It is Off by default. This is a debugging option that can result in non-recoverable errors and wrong solutions due to outdated values. See Finite Volume Solvers Reference for details.
- Temporary Storage Retained
- When activated, retains the data that is in temporary storage at the end of the iteration.
Applies to the Dispersed Phase Flow solver and the Dispersed Phase Energy solver.
- Under-Relaxation Factor
- Governs the extent to which the newly computed solution supplants the old solution at each iteration. The default value is 0.7.
Applies to the Dispersed Phase Velocity solver, the Dispersed Phase Volume Fraction solver, and the Dispersed Phase Energy solver.
- Minimum Volume Fraction
- Sets a lower limit on the value of volume fraction in a cell for each dispersed phase.
Applies to the Dispersed Phase Volume Fraction solver only.
- Maximum Volume Fraction
- Sets an upper limit on the value of volume fraction in a cell for each dispersed phase.
Applies to the Dispersed Phase Volume Fraction solver only.
