Setting Up Mesh Adaption for the Reacting Flow

The Adaptive Mesh model uses reacting flow-specific mesh refinement criteria to determine where to refine or coarsen the mesh along the flame front and within the region of the flame.

For this simulation, a criterion based on progress variable is the most suitable. Since this tutorial simulation is perfectly premixed, you do not require a criterion based on mixture fraction. You leave the error indicator limits of [0.001, 0.01] and the maximum refinement level of 2 at their defaults. The prism layer is refined equally in all directions. Note that adaptive prism layer refinement does not account for wall curvature refinement, so you are advised to use it only for straight walls, as is the case for this tutorial simulation.
To set up mesh adaption for the reacting flow:
  1. Select the Physics 1 > Models > Adaptive Mesh node and set Prism Cell Refinement to Isotropic.
  2. Right-click the Physics 1 > Models > Adaptive Mesh > Adaptive Mesh Criteria node and select New > Mesh Adaption for Reacting Flows.
  3. Select the Mesh Adaption for Reacting Flows > Variables node and for the Variables property, use the (Custom Editor) to deselect Mixture Fraction.
  4. Save the simulation.
