Loading the Starting File and Generating the Mesh

To set up the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ simulation, launch a simulation and generate the volume mesh.

To load the starting file:
  1. Launch Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and click (Load a File).
  2. In the Load a File dialog:
    1. In the Process Options group box, select an appropriate parallel option, and set the number of Compute Processes to a minimum of 4—or as many processors as feasible on the machine that you are using.
    2. Click Browse.
    3. In the Open dialog, navigate to the reactingFlow folder of the downloaded tutorial files and select the file V_combustor_start.sim.
    4. Click Open, then OK.
  3. To generate the mesh, right-click the Geometry > Operations > Automated Mesh and select Execute.
  4. To visualise the mesh, create a mesh scene.

The mesh is generated with a uniform coarse cell size of 4 mm. This coarse mesh is used as the starting point for adaptive mesh refinement (AMR). By using AMR later on, the mesh remains coarse in areas that are distant from the flame. Along the flame front, the mesh is refined based on certain criteria.

  5. Save the simulation as V_combustor.sim.
