Co-Simulation Zones Reference

Co-simulation zones allow you to couple boundaries or regions with corresponding boundaries or regions in the partner simulation. Co-simulation zones also define the fields that are exchanged between the coupled model parts during the co-simulation.

Zones Manager Properties

Number of Zones
Displays the number of zones defined for this link. Read-only.

Zones Manager Right-Click Actions

New
Adds a co-simulation zone under the Zones node.

Zone Properties

Index
Specifies a unique index which identifies a zone. A zone is connected with the zone of same index in the partner simulation. Read-only.
Zone Type
Specifies what type of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ objects are assigned to the co-simulation zone for coupling. The available options are:
  • Surface Zone: allows you to couple Simcenter STAR-CCM+ boundaries to their surface counterparts in the partner simulation (surface-to-surface coupling).
  • Volume Zone: allows you to couple Simcenter STAR-CCM+ regions to their volume counterparts in the partner simulation (volume-to-volume coupling).

Zone Conditions and Values

The conditions and values of a co-simulation zone allow you to specify the coupled boundaries, or regions, and the fields that are exchanged during the co-simulation.

Coupled Model Parts
Displays the parts on the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ model that exchange data with the partner simulation, through this co-simulation zone. The coupled model parts can be boundaries (surface-to-surface coupling) or regions (volume-to-volume coupling). Volume-to-volume coupling is only available for exchange of data through auxiliary fields.
This property is read-only. To assign a Simcenter STAR-CCM+ boundary or region to a co-simulation zone, use the External Code Coupling Specification condition for the relevant boundary or region.
External Model Parts
When you run the co-simulation, this property displays the partner simulation model parts that couple with the Coupled Model Parts specified for this co-simulation zone. Read-only.
Exported Fields, Imported Fields
Allow you to specify the fields that are exchanged during the co-simulation. For more information, see Exchanged Fields Reference.
Export Mappers
When you set Mapping Mode to either Map Before Export or Map Both Directions, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ adds a mapper control for each of the field functions selected for export. Each mapper control allows you to select the data mapper that map the field to the partner simulation. You can choose between the default co-simulation mapper, that Simcenter STAR-CCM+ creates automatically, or any custom mapper available under the Tools > Data Mappers node.
Import Mappers
When you set Mapping Mode to either Map After Import or Map Both Directions, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ adds a mapper control for each of the field functions selected for import. Each mapper control allows you to select the data mapper that map the field to the partner simulation. You can choose between the default co-simulation mapper, that Simcenter STAR-CCM+ creates automatically, or any custom mapper available under the Tools > Data Mappers node.
