Setting Up the Ignitor

For the ignition of the air-fuel mixture, you create an ignitor Engine Part, which provides a template for defining the ignition location and timing. You set the ignition timing to 350.0 deg CA, which corresponds to 10.0 deg CA BTDC.

To set up the ignitor:
  1. Right-click the Engine node and select Create Ignitor.
The Edit tab opens and displays the ignitor template.
  2. Position the ignitor:
    1. In the Visualization toolbar, click (Make Scene Transparent).
    2. In the Graphics window, change the view to obtain a similar engine position to the one shown below:

The ignitor is displayed as a red sphere in the center of the cylinder head.
    3. In the Edit dialog, set the following Position properties:
      Property Setting
      X20.0 mm
      Z -2.5 mm
    4. To preview the ignitor in the Graphics window, click Update at the bottom of the dialog.
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ In-cylinder updates the position of the ignitor:

    5. Click (Make Scene Transparent) to restore the opaque display of the Engine Parts.
  3. Set the ignition timing:
    1. Within the Edit dialog, in the Physics group box, set Spark Start Time to 350.0 degCA.
    2. Click OK.
  4. Save the simulation .
