For the ignition of the air-fuel mixture, you create an ignitor Engine Part, which provides a template for defining the ignition location and timing. You set the ignition timing to 350.0 deg CA, which corresponds to 10.0 deg CA BTDC.
- Right-click the Engine node and select Create Ignitor.
The Edit tab opens and displays the ignitor template.
- Position the ignitor:
- In the Visualization toolbar, click
(Make Scene Transparent). - In the Graphics window, change the view to obtain a similar engine position to the one shown below:
The ignitor is displayed as a red sphere in the center of the cylinder head.
- In the Edit dialog, set the following Position properties:

- To preview the ignitor in the Graphics window, click Update at the bottom of the dialog.
Simcenter STAR-CCM+
In-cylinder updates the position of the ignitor:
- Click
(Make Scene Transparent) to restore the opaque display of the Engine Parts.
- Set the ignition timing:
- Within the Edit dialog, in the Physics group box, set Spark Start Time to 350.0 degCA.
- Click OK.
- Save the simulation
