Creating Shape Parts

Shape parts are simple geometric shapes that you can create quickly. Available shape parts are block, cone, cylinder, and shpere. Typically, shape parts are created after you import a geometry part and are used to create the exterior fluid domain while referencing imported geometry parts.

To create a shape part:
  1. If you have a scene available in the simulation, open it. Otherwise create a geometry scene.

Having a scene open before creating a shape part displays the shape part in that scene, thus allowing you to preview the shape before you create it.

  2. Right-click the Geometry > Parts node and select New Shape Part > [Shape Part].
  3. In the dialog that appears, define the size and shape of the part:
    • Block: define the coordinates for two opposite corners of the block.
    • Cone: define two coordinate points and the radius at each point.
    • Cylinder: define two coordinate points for the two ends of the cylinder, and the radius of the cylinder.
    • Sphere: define a single coordinate point for the center of the sphere, and the radius of the sphere.

You can enter values in the panel or click and drag the handles in the graphics window.

  4. Choose the tessellation density for the shape part.
  5. Click Create.

You can create additional shape parts of the same type by clicking Create.

  6. Click Close.

The shape part is added to the Geometry > Parts node.

NoteOnly simple shape parts that are created using Simcenter STAR-CCM+ v9.06 or later have CAD association. However, if you use Simcenter STAR-CCM+ v9.06 to change the parameters of a simple shape part created in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ v9.04 or earlier, the simple shape part is given CAD association.

To edit an existing shape part, right-click on its node in the feature tree and select Edit Part in Current Scene. Alternatively, you can edit the values and options that are used for each shape directly using the Properties window.
