Exporting Data to Simcenter 3D Acoustics

Simcenter STAR-CCM+ allows you to export mesh and solution data to Simcenter 3D Acoustics, for vibro-acoustics simulations.

Mesh and solution data from Simcenter STAR-CCM+ are exported to the CGNS file format, which can then be imported in Simcenter 3D Acoustics. To export data to CGNS:

  1. Follow the general instructions in Exporting Data to CGNS Files, with the additional guidelines provided in this section.
When exporting solution data to Simcenter 3D Acoustics, you typically export pressure and acoustic pressure. To export pressure:
  1. In the relevant zone, right-click the Conditions > Exported Fields node and select Add Auxiliary Field > Scalar.
  2. Rename the auxiliary field node to pressure.
  3. Select the Exported Fields > pressure node and set Scalar Function to Pressure.
To export acoustic pressure:
  1. In the relevant zone, add a scalar auxiliary field and rename it to acousticpressure.
  2. Select the Exported Fields > acousticpressure node and set Scalar Function to Acoustic Pressure.
  3. When exporting boundary data, specify the following zone settings:
    • Set the Boundary Triangulation condition to All Faces Excluding Quads. This option converts polygonal faces (which are not supported by Simcenter 3D Acoustics) to triangles.

For more information, see Boundary Triangulation.

    • To retain the original boundaries, set the Merge Boundaries condition to Do Not Merge Boundaries.
  4. Select the [Link 1] > Conditions > File Mode node and set Option to File Series.
With this option, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ creates new files at every export event. The number of files depends on the specified Mesh Mode. See Output CGNS Files. For more information, see File Mode.
