Creating the Virtual Disk Mesh Refinement

To obtain a good resolution of the flow field around the virtual disk, you are advised to create a cylindrical volumetric refinement. You create the refinement using part shapes and mesh custom controls.

To create the mesh refinement for the virtual disk:
  1. Right-click the Geometry > Parts node and select New Shape Part > Cylinder.
  2. In the Create Cylinder Part dialog, set the following parameters:
Start Coordinate End Coordinate Cylinder Radius Coordinate System
    X 0.0 0.0 1.0 m Laboratory\Virtual Disk-CSys 1
    Y 0.0 0.0
    Z -0.09 m 0.08

You create the cylindrical shape part with respect to the local coordinate system of the virtual disk. By using this coordinate system, you automatically tilt the virtual disk refinement according to the pitch angle of the virtual disk.
  3. Click Create, then Close.
  4. Rename the Parts > Cylinder node to Disk Refinement.

Continue by assigning custom mesh controls to the Disk Refinement part shape:

  1. Right-click the Geometry > Operations > Automated Mesh > Custom Controls node and select New > Volumetric Control.
  2. Rename the Volumetric Control node as Disk Refinement.
  3. Edit the Disk Refinement node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Disk Refinement Parts Disk Refinement
Controls > Trimmer Customize Isotropic Size Activated
Values > Custom Size Relative to Base 10.0
  4. Save the simulation.
