View Snapshots Reference

The following options, operations, and actions are available in either the quick access menu or the Manage View Snapshot dialog.

Quick Access Menu Option

The following options are available when the split button is selected.

Store Snapshot
Allows you to store the current geometry and view information as a snapshot. For individual based snapshots a list of the current displayed faces is stored. For patch based snapshots a list of patches is stored instead. If a partial set of faces for a patch is displayed, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ will restore the entire patch information however, the thumbnail only shows a partial selection. When you select the Store Snapshot option you can name the snapshot in the Enter View Snapshot Name dialog.
Restore Snapshot
Enables any stored snapshots to be restored upon selection of it in the Restore Snapshot option.

Manage View Snapshot Operations

The following operations are available in the Manage View Snapshot dialog. When the Manage View Snapshot dialog is open no operations outside of the dialog can be performed. To deselect a view snapshot in the list hold the Ctrl key whilst re-selecting the snapshot.

Sort Views
Re-orders the snapshots based on the Sort View option you selected. There are four options for this:
  • Chronological
  • Alphabetical
  • Face Count
  • Patch Count
The order selected in the Manage View Snapshot dialog is maintained for the Restore Snapshot option in Quick Access Menu. The face and patch count is set when you create the snapshot and is not updated if you make changes to the surface. If you select either the Face Count or Patch Count the snapshots are ordered starting with the lowest face or patch count and moving to the highest face or patch count.
Filter
Filters the list of snapshots visible in the Manage View Snapshot dialog. You can filter for individual based snapshots only (Individual Only), patch based snapshots only (Patch Only), or both individual and patch based snapshots (Both).
Browse Snapshot
Allows you to browse the created snapshots using the arrow buttons provided. When you are using the browse tool the restore action is performed automatically and accounts for subset actions when restoring the view. At least two snapshots are required for the browse buttons to be active.
Convert All
Converts all individual based snapshots to patch based snapshots. This allows you to store the geometry and viewing setting for future use in a Surface Repair session and save the geometry and viewing settings to the simulation file. For each individual snapshot the patch id's are stored instead of the face id's when this operation is selected. The snapshot conversion is a one way process and cannot be undone.
If you want to convert a single snapshot to a patch based snapshot, right-click on the required snapshot and select Convert. For patch based snapshots this action is disabled.
Subset Action
Allows you to manipulate the current scene view. There are four options for this:
  • New—Replaces the existing scene content with the geometry and view information from the selected snapshot.
  • Add—Adds the selected snapshot geometry to the current scene.
  • Remove—Subtracts the selected snapshot geometry from the current scene.
  • Subset—Displays the common entities between the current scene view and the selected snapshot geometry.
For all subset actions, except New, the scene view is not changed. The results of a subset action is not visible until you click Update. The new scene view can be saved using the Store Snapshot operation.
Copy All Views
Creates a scene view object with the same name and thumbnail image for each snapshot. The new scene views are stored in the (Save-Restore-Select Views > Restore Views) menu. This allows you to use the views outside of surface repair and save it within the simulation file.
If you want to copy a single snapshot to a scene view object, right-click the required snapshot and select Copy View.
Store Snapshot
Allows you to store the current scene view as a separate snapshot. The type of snapshot produced is determined by the Selection Mode selected in the scene.
Delete All
Deletes all available snapshots. Deleting a view snapshot is permanent and cannot be undone. If you want to delete a single snapshot, right-click the required snapshot and select Delete.
Restore Options
When restoring a snapshot using the Update button, you can choose to restore either the view information (View Only), geometry information (Geometry Only), or both the geometry and view information (Both). These options are only available when the Subset Action is set to New.

Manage View Snapshot Right-Click Actions

In addition to the Convert, Copy View, and Delete actions previously mentioned the following operations are available as right-click actions:

Restore
This action ignores all other options in the Manage View Snapshot dialog and directly restores the snapshot geometry and view selected.
Rename...
Allows you to rename the current snapshot using the Rename View Snapshot dialog.
