About the Physics Model Selection Dialog
The Physics Model Selection dialog is used to select and modify the physics models for physics continua, phases, and phase interactions. For a multiphase flow simulation, you can set up a physics continuum, create the necessary phases and phase interactions, and select the appropriate phase models and phase interaction models in a single procedure.
Selecting and removing models in physics continua, phases, and phase interactions can only be done through the Physics Model Selection dialog:
- The dialog is similar to a wizard in that it can assist you through a complex process selection network.
- It is unlike a wizard in that it does not have the traditional Next and Back buttons.
- It does not restrict you to answering questions in a particular order.
- Models that are not available with Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Lite are grayed out.
The Physics Model Selection dialog has a two-panel layout. The left panel lists the physics continua, and the phases and phase interactions that are defined for each physics continuum. The right panel shows the models that are available for the selected physics continuum, phase, or phase interaction, and lets you add or change the selected models.
An example of the Physics Model Selection dialog part way through a selection process is shown below. The important features of the dialog are labelled.

Model Selection in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Lite
If you are running Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Lite, some of the models are grayed out, as shown in the example below. These models are available for selection only in the full version of Simcenter STAR-CCM+.

Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Lite lets the Physics Model Selection dialog display any selected models, even ones that were activated in the full version of Simcenter STAR-CCM+. However, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Lite cannot run the simulation. If you attempt to run the case, an Information dialog is displayed, listing the items that are not supported by the current license configuration.
