Mass Transfer Coefficients

The mass transfer coefficient k is found using Sherwood numbers for each phase:

where D is the species diffusivity within a phase and l is the phase interaction length scale.

A single Sherwood number is assumed to apply for the whole phase. The Sherwood number for a dispersed phase or continuous phase can be specified by a constant or by a field function.

Ranz-Marshall Method

The Sherwood number for a continuous phase can also be calculated using a Ranz-Marshall method:
