Defining the External Continuum

The starting simulation already contains a physics continuum that models the solid hull. To import the fluid loads defined in the CGNS files, you require an additional physics continuum that represents the external fluid.

To define the external physics continuum:
  1. Create a physics continuum.
  2. Rename the Continua > Physics 1 node to CGNS.
  3. For the CGNS physics continuum, select the following models in order:
    Group Box Model
    Optional Models

    External Continuum

    External Continuum File Transfer
File Transfer Models CGNS Data Fileset
    Space Surface Three Dimensional
    Time Implicit Unsteady
  4. Click Close.
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ adds a new node, Link 1, under External Links. The Link 1 node allows you to define the connection between the external CGNS files and the solid simulation.
  5. Save the simulation.
