Visualizing the Solution

Prepare two scalar scenes: one to display the stresses throughout the hull and one to display the fluid pressure applied to the hull surface. Additionally, create a plot to monitor the maximum Von Mises stress throughout the hull with respect to time.
  1. Prepare a scalar scene the visualize the hull stresses:
    1. Right-click the Scenes node and select New > Scalar.
    2. Rename the Scalar Scene 1 node to Hull Stresses.
    3. Click Scene/Plot.
    4. Expand the Scalar 1 node and set the following properties:
      Node Property Setting
Parts Parts Regions > Hull > Boundaries > External
Scalar Field Function Stress Von Mises
      Units MPa
  2. Prepare a scalar scene to visualize the fluid pressure loads on the hull surface:
    1. Create a copy of the hull stresses scene by dragging the Scenes > Hull Stresses node onto the Scenes node.
    2. Rename the Copy of Hull Stresses node to Hull Fluid Pressure.
    3. Click Scene/Plot.
    4. Select the Scalar 1 > Scalar Field node.
    5. Select Function and click (Custom Editor).
    6. Select Co-Simulation: FluidPressure.
  3. Create a report of the maximum Von Mises stress throughout the hull:
    1. Right-click the Reports node and select New > User > Maximum.
    2. Rename the Reports > Maximum 1 node to Max Stress.
    3. Select the Max Stress node and set the following properties:
      Property Setting
      Field Function Stress Von Mises
Parts Regions > Hull > Boundaries > External
  4. Right-click the Reports > Max Stress node and select Create Monitor and Plot from Report.
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ creates a report that allows you to monitor the maximum Von Mises stress within the hull as the simulation progresses through time.
  5. Save the simulation.
