Applying the Fluid Loads to the Solid

To apply the fluid loads from the CGNS files to the solid hull region, you create a segment. Segments are Simcenter STAR-CCM+ objects that define loads and constraints on solid parts in stress simulations.

Based on the pressure applied via the segment, Simcenter STAR-CCM+ computes the solid stress throughout the hull.
Create a segment for the imported fluid loads:
  1. Right-click the Regions > Hull > Segments node and select Create Segment > Surface Segment.
  2. Rename the Segments > Surface Segment 1 node to External Fluid Loads.
  3. Select the External Fluid Loads node and set the properties as follows:
    Property Setting
    Surfaces Hull 1 > Surfaces > HullSolid.External
    Hull 2 > Surfaces > HullSolid 3.External
    Hull 3 > Surfaces > HullSolid 2.External
    Type Load (default)
  4. Select the External Fluid Loads > Physics Conditions > Solid Stress Loads node and set Method to Pressure.

Set the applied load to the fluid pressure imported from the CGNS files:

  1. Select the External Fluid Loads > Physics Values > Pressure node and set the following properties:
    Property Setting
    Method Field Function
    Scalar Function Co-Simulation: Fluid Pressure

As you set the Mapping Option to Map After Import Simcenter STAR-CCM+ automatically maps the imported fluid pressure to the solid mesh and applies the mapped data to the surfaces that you specified using the segment.

  1. Save the simulation.
