Simulation operations allow you to automate the solution processes in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ without using Java macros. Condition and loop operations provide the basic logic control common to many programming languages.
Operation Reference
Operations are the building blocks of simulation operation sequences. There are several types of operation that you can use to automate your process.

The Solve Acoustic Modes operation runs the Acoustic Modal Solver—which computes the acoustic frequencies, mode shapes, and linear growth rates for a given geometry and CFD solution.

  In Simcenter STAR-CCM+, you can define property values using expressions, which you write using a function language that is a subset of the C programming language. Expressions can define mathematical expressions or perform other operations, such as interpolating tabular data from XY tables in the simulation.

  Global parameters include scalar and vector physical quantities (for example, 120.0 K or [0.0, 1.0, 0.0] m) that can be defined once and used in multiple objects. Another type of global parameter is a file, currently used for the Replace Parts operation in Geometry > Operations and in Design Manager.

  Field functions allow you to access fields (scalar or vector data that are evaluated at cells, vertices, or boundary faces) in Simcenter STAR-CCM+. You can use field functions to visualize the computed fields, to specify boundary and region values, or to define initial conditions.

  Simcenter STAR-CCM+ has flexible and customizable support for engineering units. The standard SI and USCS systems are built in, and you can add new units as desired. Physical quantities can be specified and displayed in any of these units. Individual quantities can be specified with new units on the fly by simply typing something like “80 mph”.

    In Simcenter STAR-CCM+ you create simulation operations under the Automation > Simulation Operations node. A simulation operation sequence is created by adding operations in execution order.

    When you create a simulation operation sequence, extra icons appear within the Solution toolbar by which you specify and run the sequence. You can also run simulation operation sequences in batch mode.

      The Condition operation is a composite operation that forks to two child sequences on the basis of a predicate. In programming terms, the condition operation behaves as an if-then-else construct.

      Initialize Solution allows you to initialize the simulation solution at a specified position in a simulation sequence.
    - Predicates
      A predicate is a boolean statement that evaluates to true or false. In Condition you set up a predicate to control which child sequence is followed. In Loop you use the predicate as a criterion for continuing the loop sequence.
    - Loop
      The loop operation contains a child sequence that is executed repeatedly while the loop condition predicate evaluates to true. In programming terms, condition works as a while loop construct.
    - Mesh
      The Mesh operation launches the volume mesh generation process for a parts-based meshing pipeline.
    - Remove Invalid Cells
      The Remove Invalid Cells operation provides a tool for removing poor quality cells based on specified mesh criteria. Poor quality cells can cause the solution to diverge or compromise the accuracy of the results. All the cells removed are kept in a separate region that is not used in the analysis.
    - Stop Simulation Operations
      Stop Simulation Operations provides an automatic way for stopping the simulation operation sequence during its run.
    - Run Flamelet Table Generator
      The Run Flamelet Table Generator operation generates the relevant flamelet table for the flamelet model that is selected.
    - Run Reactor Network
      The Run Reactor Network operation executes a reactor network simulation—this clusters computational mesh cells into a small number of reactors and calculates a detailed chemistry solution on them.
    - Save Simulation
      The Save Simulation operation allows you to specify a simulation save point within the simulation operation sequence. The properties of this block provide flexibility in where the simulation files are saved and how they are named. The Save Simulation Operation is independent of the Auto Save dialog.
    - Set Active Stage
      The Set Active Stage allows you to change the stage in the simulation sequence.
    - Set Parameter
      The Set Parameter operation allows you to set the value of global parameters during the execution of a simulation operation sequence.
    - Solve Adjoint
      The Solve Adjoint operation combines the adjoint solver run with selected analytics based on the adjoint result.
    - Solve Physics
      The Solve Physics operation runs the solvers associated with the selected simulation objects, which can be either physics continua or time scales, until the time-scale-specific, solver-specific, or global stopping criteria are met, whichever comes first.
    - Map Data
      The Map Data operation integrates pre-defined single data mapper or multiple data mappers into a simulation operation sequence.
    - Solve Normal Modes
      The Solve Normal Modes operation runs the Solid Stress Normal Modes solver—which calculates the normal modes of solid structures in solid stress simulations.
    - Solve Acoustic Modes
      The Solve Acoustic Modes operation runs the Acoustic Modal Solver—which computes the acoustic frequencies, mode shapes, and linear growth rates for a given geometry and CFD solution.
    - Deform Mesh
      The Deform Mesh operation activates the deform mesh action from the Mesh Deformation solver. This action causes the morpher to deform the geometry according to the Morpher Displacement you defined in the boundary or in point sets.
    - Clear Field Monitors
      The Clear Field Monitors operation clears the storage associated with the selected field monitors from memory.
    - Export
      In a simulation operation sequence, the Export operation controls the export of post-processing objects of four types—scene, plot, layout view, and screenplay. For each output type, a corresponding child node is added to customize the export properties.
- Staged Physics
  In Simcenter STAR-CCM+, staged physics allows you to store multiple configurations of physics settings and apply them in sequence during a simulation. Simulation operations provide the framework in which physics stages are applied.
- Working with Volume Shapes
  A volume shape is a closed geometric figure that can be shaped as a block, cone, cylinder, or sphere.
- Simulation Guide
  The simulation guide is a single embedded document that you can edit within a simulation file. This document can contain formatted text, tables, images, and hyperlinks to nodes in the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ object tree or external web resources.

  Template simulation files allow you to define pre-configured setups for use in new simulations. When used in conjunction with query-based selection, template files present a powerful technique for automating repeat analyses on similar geometries.

Solve Acoustic Modes

The Solve Acoustic Modes operation runs the Acoustic Modal Solver—which computes the acoustic frequencies, mode shapes, and linear growth rates for a given geometry and CFD solution.

The Solve Acoustic Modes operation has no unique properties. Make sure that the simulation does not contain settings that are incompatible with the Acoustic Modal Solver.

To execute the Solve Acoustic Modes operation, you require the Acoustic Modal Analysis model in the relevant physics continuum. (You can add the Acoustic Modal Analysis model to the physics continuum after running the CFD solution).

To tabulate the results after executing the simulation operations, right-click the Continua > Continuum > Models > Acoustic Modal Analysis > Acoustic Frequency Table node and select Export... or Tabulate....
