Vortex Stretching Modification

Almost all two-equation models tend to predict a larger spreading rate for round jets than for plane jets, while the opposite effect is observed in experiments. The vortex-stretching modification is designed to overcome this round-jet/plane-jet anomaly [328]. In Simcenter STAR-CCM+, this modification is implemented for the Standard K-Omega model and is defined as follows:

Vortex-Stretching Modification Formulation
Activated

fβ is defined as follows:

Figure 1. EQUATION_DISPLAY
fβ=1+70χω1+80χω
(1233)

where:

χω=(WW):S(β*ω)3

and:

If the cross-diffusion limiter is activated, fβ is defined as:

Figure 2. EQUATION_DISPLAY
fβ=1+85χω1+100χω
(1234)
Deactivated fβ is set to unity.

The vortex-stretching modification is not available for the SST K-Omega model—fβ is set to unity.
