Setting Stopping Criteria and Solver Parameters

Set the appropriate solver parameters and stopping criteria for the simulation.

Decrease the under-relaxation factors for the solvers to aid solution convergence.

Leave the Explicit Under-Relaxation Factor set to the default value of 1.0, and adjust the Implicit Under-Relaxation Factor to set the Overall Relaxation Factor. This tutorial uses overall relaxation factors of 0.6 for the Velocity solver and 0.3 for the Volume Fraction solver.

To set the solver parameters and stopping criteria:

  1. Edit the Solvers node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
Segregated EMP Flow > Phase Coupled Velocity Implicit Under-Relaxation Factor 0.6
    Explicit Under-Relaxation Factor 1.0
Segregated EMP Flow > Pressure Under-Relaxation Factor 0.2
Volume Fraction Implicit Under-Relaxation Factor 0.3
    Explicit Under-Relaxation Factor 1.0
    K-Epsilon Turbulence Under-Relaxation Factor 0.8
    K-Epsilon Turbulent Viscosity Under-Relaxation Factor 1.0
  2. Edit the Stopping Criteria node and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Maximum Steps Enabled Activated
    Maximum Steps 2000
  3. Save the simulation.
