Assigning Faces to a Target Part Surface Contact

Within the Part Edit group box, you can use the Part Surface Contact option to assign faces to existing part surface contacts. This feature is useful in situations where you use surface repair tools for creating faces that belong to a contact.

  1. In the Graphics window, select the faces which you want to add to the target part surface contact using the appropriate selection filter.
  2. In the Part Edit group box, select Part Surface Contact.
NoteOnly contacts that exist between the parts that are in the current surface repair mode are available. You cannot create a new contact using this tool. To create a new contact, return to the simulation tree. See Creating Part Contacts Manually.
  3. Click and select the target part surface contact from the Select Object dialog.
  4. In the Part Edit group box, click Modify.
The selected faces are added to the target part surface contact. However:
  • If the selected faces belong to a contact that is different from the target contact, the following warning is displayed in the Output window:

Warning -- some faces were moved out of part contacts.

  • The faces that are added to the target part surface contact using this tool are assigned to a separate patch from those faces that already belong to the target part surface contact.
