    This tutorial demonstrates the process for modeling conjugate heat transfer using Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to Simcenter STAR-CCM+ thermal co-simulation.

    This tutorial demonstrates how to run a thermal co-simulation case using Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Abaqus. Co-simulation involves a strong coupling between the two codes, in which data exchange occurs at frequent intervals, that are known as coupling steps. In this case, data is exchanged at the end of each time-step, and a relatively large time-step is used to approximate a steady-state solution.
  - Abaqus Co-Simulation: Mechanical Coupling
    This tutorial demonstrates how to carry out a mechanical co-simulation case using Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and Abaqus. Co-simulation involves a strong coupling between the two codes. Data is exchanged at frequent intervals that are called coupling steps. This level of communication between the solvers allows you to obtain a full solution across the fluid-solid interface.

    Simcenter STAR-CCM+ allows for one-way coupling with gPROMS, a process modeling platform for the simulation of complex systems. In Simcenter STAR-CCM+ you reduce three-dimensional solution data to discrete values defined for clusters of cells; data from these clusters can then be exported to a network in gPROMS.

    This tutorial demonstrates the typical workflow for co-simulation with the engine simulation code GT-SUITE from Gamma Technologies.
    - Prerequisites
      The instructions in the GT-SUITE Co-Simulation - 1D Coupling tutorial assume that you are already familiar with certain techniques in Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
    - Preparing the File Structure
      For this tutorial, you are provided with a starting GT-SUITE simulation file, containing the engine analysis, and the intake manifold Simcenter STAR-CCM+ volume mesh. Copy these files to your working directory.
    - Modifying the GT-SUITE Simulation for Co-Simulation
      After running a standalone GT-SUITE analysis to convergence, you modify the GT-SUITE simulation for coupling with Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
    - Setting Up the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Simulation
      Prepare the intake manifold simulation in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and modify it for co-simulation with GT-SUITE.
      - Importing the Volume Mesh
        To set up the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ simulation, launch a simulation and import the supplied volume mesh.

Plotting the Mass Flow for Each Cylinder

Create a mass flow report, monitor, and plot to analyze the fluid flow in and out of each cylinder.

To plot the mass flow for each cylinder:

Right-click the Reports node and select New > Flow/Energy > Mass Flow.
Rename the Mass Flow 1 node to Mass Flow Cyl1.
Select the Reports > Mass Flow Cyl1 node and set Parts to Cyl1.

Similarly, create three more reports to monitor mass flow in cylinders two, three and four, with the following names and boundaries:

Multi-select the Mass Flow Cyl1, Mass Flow Cyl2, Mass Flow Cyl3, and Mass Flow Cyl4 nodes.
Right-click one of the selected nodes and select Create Monitor and Plot from Report.
In the Create Plot From Reports dialog, click Single Plot.
Save the simulation.
