Setting Initial Conditions

Set the initial conditions to match the conditions in the GT-SUITE model at the start of coupling. This speeds up convergence at the start of the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ simulation.

The initial conditions that you use in the following steps come from the independent GT-SUITE run at the start of this tutorial.

As stated in the previous section, pressure values in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ are relative to the reference pressure. Therefore, you set the initial pressure to 0.0 bar, as you have already set the reference pressure accordingly.

To set the initial pressure, temperature, and turbulence settings:

  1. Edit the Continua > Physics 1 > Initial Conditions node, and set the following properties:
    Node Property Setting
    Pressure Value 0 bar
    Static Temperature Value 315 K
Turbulence Specification Method Intensity + Length Scale
    Turbulence Intensity Value 0.1
Turbulent Length Scale Value 1 mm

To set the initial mass fractions:

  1. Select the Initial Conditions > Species Mass Fraction node. Click (Custom Editor) to set Value as follows:
    Gas Component Mass Fraction
    prod_o2 0.01
    prod_h2o 0.02
    prod_co2 0.03
    lump_N2 0.15
    o2-vap 0.18
    n2-vap 0.61
  2. Save the simulation.
