Validating a Design Study

Design Manager provides a dynamic warning badging tool that allows you to validate a design study before the run.

The warning badging tool gives you guidance to make sure that the setup of your design study is complete. It identifies incorrect settings in the tree and thereby helps to avoid time-consuming error searching. A warning badge () on the design study node indicates that the study is not ready to run.
To validate a design study that indicates setup warnings:
  1. Right-click the Design Studies > [design study] node and select Validate Study.
A Validation Warnings window opens, which lists all warnings for the Design Manager project, grouped by design study. Each warning displays the Message and the Source of the warning.

If you have multiple Design Manager Projects open, the Validation Warnings window displays one tab for each project.

  2. In the Validation Warnings window, select a warning.
In the details pane at the bottom of the Validation Warnings window, the entire warning message is displayed. Design Manager selects the source node that corresponds to the warning in the tree.
  3. In the selected source node, resolve the warning as described in the warning message.
Whenever you set or modify a property of the design study, the warning badging tool dynamically re-validates the study and updates the warnings accordingly. After resolving the error, the corresponding warning disappears from the Validation Warnings window.
The warning badging tool also allows you to filter the warnings by Message or by Source:
  1. In the Validation Warnings window, set Filter by to Message or Source, respectively.
  2. In the text box, type what you want to filter by. If you want to enter an entire warning message, you can copy the message from the details pane using Ctrl + C and paste it in the text box using Ctrl + V.
The Validation Warnings window updates to display the warnings that fit the specified filter. Next to the text-box, the number of filtered warnings is displayed.
  3. When the setup of your design study is complete and correct, close the Validation Warnings window.
  4. To re-open the window, do one of the following:
    • Select the Window > Validation > [project] menu option, where [project] is the name of the Design Manager Project.
    • Click the warning icon in the bottom right corner of the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ GUI. In the Validation Warnings pop-up window, click on the message "[project]" has [n] warnings..., where [n] is the number of warnings.
NoteThe warning badging tool can not dynamically validate a design study as long as another design study is running in the same Design Manager Project. Instead, the design study is validated as soon as the running design study completes.
