Meshers in Simcenter STAR-CCM+
The meshers in Simcenter STAR-CCM+ generate surface and volume meshes for geometry parts that are assigned to regions and make them ready for analysis.
Surface Meshers
- Surface Remesher
- Remeshes the initial surface to provide a high-quality triangle or
quad-based surface that can be used as input to the volume meshers.
- Automatic Surface Repair
- Automatically corrects the remeshed surface when pierced faces, surface proximity issues, or surface quality issues are present in the surface.
- Geometric Sensitivity
- Calculates the sensitivity of the geometric surfaces with respect to selected geometric parameters when a predefined offset is applied. This calculation takes place on the remeshed surface.
Volume Meshers
- Polyhedral Mesher
- Generates a volume mesh composed of polyhedral-shaped cells.
- Tetrahedral Mesher
- Generates a volume mesh that is composed of
tetrahedral-shaped cells.
- Trimmed Cell Mesher
- Generates a volume mesh by cutting a hexahedral template mesh with the geometry surface.
- Thin Mesher
- Generates a prismatic layered volume mesh
for thin geometries.
- Generalized Cylinder Mesher
- Generates a volume mesh appropriate for
cylindrical regions.
Boundary Layer Meshers
- Prism Layer Mesher
- Adds prismatic cell layers next to wall
boundaries. Prismatic layers are important for capturing viscous and
thermal gradients close to the wall.
- Advancing Layer Mesher
- Creates a volume mesh composed of prismatic
cell layers next to wall boundaries and a polyhedral mesh elsewhere.
This mesher creates a surface mesh on the wall and projects it to create
the prismatic cell layers.
Other Meshers
- Automated Mesh (2D)
- Generates a 2D mesh for the geometry. Only
parts that are badged for 2D are avaliable for selection. There are four
different volume mesh types to choose from:
- Polygonal
- Quadrilateral
- Triangular
- Prism Layer Mesher
- Automated Mesh (Shell)
- Generates either a quadrilateral or
triangular volume mesh for shell parts.
- Volume Extruder
- Generates an extruded mesh region from a
boundary that one of the core volume meshers has meshed. Useful for
extending flow domains without creating additional geometry.
- Directed Mesh
- Generates a swept mesh through the volume
of the specified geometry. For this, you define the initial surface mesh
on the source face and the mesh is swept through the volume to the
target face, producing the desired structured mesh across the entire
geometry.
- Turbomachinery Mesh
- Generate a flow aligned structured volume
mesh for axial blade geometries.
