Visualizing Mesh Descriptions

You can use descriptions to visualize the effect of a mesh operation on a geometry part.

To visualize a mesh description:

  1. Make sure that you have a mesh scene open and the geometry part is visible in the scene.
The following image shows the surface tessellation of an imported CAD part. This description is the root description.

  2. Drag and drop the required description node into the scene.

Previewing Parts from Mesh Operations

You can preview parts that are created by pre-executed mesh operations. Having this capability is useful for identifying parts and part surfaces when setting up interfaces or custom controls. When previewing, you see a basic surface mesh for all empty mesh operations that are in the pre-execute or out-of-date state.

To preview mesh operations:

  1. Set up a scene to display the mesh operation parts or part surfaces.
  2. Right-click the desired mesh operation and select Pre-Execute.
  3. Select the Geometry > Descriptions > Latest node and activate the Preview Mesh Operations Parts option.
Mesh operation parts and part surfaces that are in the latest description in the scene are displayed. The mesh is obtained from the inputs to the mesh operation. If the inputs are empty mesh operation parts, then Simcenter STAR-CCM+ searches recursively up the mesh operations inputs to find the part with a valid mesh. With this option activated, you can select and highlight parts and part surfaces from the pre-execute mesh operation parts. This function is useful when working with custom controls.
