Loading the Starting File

In this tutorial, you are provided with a simulation file that contains the geometry of a rotor blade in a surrounding fluid. The starting simulation also contains predefined mesh operations, and parameters that define the rotor geometry and rotation such as the rotation rate, rotor radius, and time period. Additionally, you are provided with a zip folder containing the input files that describe the blade motion and twist data for the 1D beams that were modelled externally.

You are advised to run this simulation on multiple cores due to the large cell count and number of time-steps required to obtain a solution.

Before loading the simulation, extract the contents of the zip folder in your working directory:
  1. Navigate to the couplingWithCaeCodes folder of the downloaded tutorial files.
  2. Extract the contents of RBAinputs.zip to your working directory.
Load the starting simulation:
  1. Launch a double-precision version of Simcenter STAR-CCM+ and select File > Load.
  2. In the Load a File dialog, select Parallel on Local Host under Process Options and set Compute Processes to 4.
  3. Click Browse...
  4. Navigate to the couplingWithCaeCodes folder of the downloaded tutorial files and select HART-II_start.sim.
  5. Click Open, then OK.
  6. Save the simulation to your working directory as HART-II.sim.
