Selecting the Physics Models

The starting simulation contains a predefined physics continuum for the air domain. To model rotor blade aeroelasticity, you require an additional physics continuum that represents the external physics (that is, the external files which contain the blade motion and twist data). In both continua, you add the Rotor Blade Aeroelasticity model.

  1. To review the physics models for the air domain, expand the Continua > Air > Models node.
  2. For the Air physics continuum, add the following models:
    Group Box Model
    Optional Models Co-Simulation
    Co-Simulation Models Rotor Blade Aeroelasticity
To create the external physics continuum:
  1. Create a physics continuum.
  2. Rename the Physics 1 continuum to External.
  3. For the External physics continuum, select the following models in order:
    Group Box Model
    Optional Models External Continuum
    External Application
    External Application Rotor Blade Aeroelasticity
    Time Implicit Unsteady (selected automatically)
    Space Three Dimensional (selected automatically)
Simcenter STAR-CCM+ adds a new node, External Links > Link 1. The Link 1 node allows you to define the connection between the external input files (collected in CAMRAD-II) and the internal Simcenter STAR-CCM+ simulation.
  4. Save the simulation.
